Review- Memory Care Facility in Greater Houston Not Recommended

I usually give glowing reviews about the places I visit but the truth is every place I visit doesn't deserve a glowing review.
This is exactly why you need to have a Professional Eldercare Advisor help you with your search.

On the surface this Memory Care Assisted Living community looked great. It was new , clean and seemed to have all the bells and whistles. But when looking at a care facility for an aging loved one, especially one with dementia who can not advocate for their self, it is important to pay attention to the care staff.

This place was lacking in knowledge about the care of people with dementia. The staff had had very little training and to me that is unacceptable. There was no protocol in place for how to deal with challenging behaviors and they were willing to accept everybody into the community, appropriate or not. It was clear that the corporate office was pushing hard for the marketing office to fill up the building.

I will not bad mouth them on the web because I hope that they will change and get their act together soon. For now I will not be referring any clients to this community. If a family asks me about this or any other community I will tell them what I know and why I would not place my family member there.

Review- Katy Pharmacy Works With Your Aging Parent

I usually review assisted living properties I visit however I could not resist sharing this gem I found with you.

If you are concerned about your aging parent being over-medicated you really need to visit Katy Pharmacy. One of their specialties is Medication Therapy Management. This is something I had never heard about before. :-)

This family owned pharmacy will take the time to review your loved ones prescriptions and make recommendations. Often a client will be able to safely discontinue some of their medications with their doctors approval. The great thing is this service is free!

Katy Pharmacy also offers specialty medications you may not be able to find at your traditional pharmacy. Compounding is also offered to create the perfect dose for your needs.

Review- Great Personal Care Home in Spring, Texas

This Personal Care Home/ small Assisted Living is truly a gem! Run by a Licensed nurse who really has a heart for caring for the elderly higher levels of care are often able to be accommodated.

The price is about half of what you would pay in a large facility and you will get twice the care!

With a small home setting extra care and attention is available for your loved one. Round the clock caregivers who are awake ensure that your loved one always has someone available to help them.The meals are home cooked with the residents needs and desires in mind.

Don't allow your loved one to be a number in a large facility! In a home like this they will maintain their dignity and be loved and valued for the person they are.

Review- Independent and Assisted Living Gem in Southwest Houston

Independent, Assisted and Skilled Nursing with a state of the art Therapy center on site, this community has it all!

This community has recently gone through extensive renovations to also make it visually appealing. Walk into the expansive lobby and you will feel as if you are in a 5 star hotel.

I love this community! The independent living is all about choices. Great floor plans to choose from and dining available when you want if you want. Prefer to cook your own meals-no problem! Your designer kitchen will allow you to do just that. Don't feel like cooking? Just hop down to the dining room and order what you like.

Need extra assistance. Assisted living is right in the same building so the transition is easy.

The best part- A staff that cares. I saw smiles everywhere I went and many of the key staff members had been there for a long time. Like I always tell my clients, if the staff is happy that is a good sign that the community is being run right and your parent will get great care!

Moving a parent with Alzheimer's can be challenging especially if the move is long distance.This Memory Care community goes over and above the call of duty to help their families. When a son was trying to move his mom from Chicago to Katy they sent their head nurse to escort her safely back to the community.

I have been impressed from the get go with everything I have seen in this community but when I heard this latest bit of information I just had to share.

This light and bright community really knows how to connect with and help seniors with all types of dementia.

Review- Assisted Living in Sugarland has 2 bedroom 1 bath

If you have been trying to get your parents to move to Assisted Living and they have been resistant to downsize this may be the perfect solution. This spacious two bedroom apartment is great for a couple. Or a single person who has a lot of stuff! :-) Roommates anyone? The community may be open to helping you find a suitable roommate.

What I really like about this community is the staff has been stable a long time. That says volumes about a community. I know I want my family member to be around people who are happy and love their job! They have fun with their residents and really become an extension of their family.

This community also offers Memory care if the need should arise.

Review- Independent Living in Sugarland - Choose when you want to dine

When we talked to my mother in law about independent living one of her biggest complaints was " I don't want to have to live on someone else's schedule!
I want to eat what I want- when I want! She did admit though it would be really nice not to have to cook for herself. most of the places we looked at offered two to three meals a day. if you missed the meal because you went to visit family oh well! Your money just went down the drain that day. You would not get any money back for missed meals. For someone who has never been dressed before 11 AM Pat would miss breakfast every day. If she only wanted a cup of soup for dinner she would still be paying the same as if she had purchased a full meal.
Not any more! This community in Sugarland, Texas has created "Dining Your Way" At the beginning of the month your account will have a designated amount in it. This can be used in the dining room where you will get a full meal ( salad, soup, entree, dessert and drink) or in the new Bistro when you can order a cup of soup, a sandwich, dessert, a pasta dish and more. Order as much or as little as you like. Depending on what you order you could have 30 to 60 meals a month at no additional charge. You could even invite a friend or family member to dine with you.
