Mom keeps repeating the same stories over and over. She also asks the same questions. It is driving me crazy! Do I need to put her in one of those memory care facilities?
This is a question I get asked a lot! To answer it I would need to know a bit more about her situation. Simple forgetfulness by itself is not a reason to place someone in a memory care facility however it may be time to look at other options such as independent plus, home care, or assisted living.
If your aging parent is having trouble remembering they may not remember to take their medication when they are supposed to and this could cause big problems. Forgetting to take medicine for high blood pressure caused my mother in law to have a stroke.
Are they remembering to pay bills? This could create some unwanted financial problems as well. I have heard some horror stories of families who found out a parents home was in foreclosure because they simply forgot to pay the mortgage.
If you do not already have a Power of Attorney in place now is the time to do so. Do not wait until a crisis has happened you may not be able to get one. This is the time to start educating yourself about the options available and have a plan in place.
